My little blog has been sorely neglected over the past month. I miss this place! Most of my writing time lately has been directed toward my new book, a collection of Scripture-inspired prayers that I hope to have completed and out in the world by the end of the year at the very latest.
The sticky and languid days of August always inspire me to reflect back on the past few months before the whirl of a new season begins. Instead of putting verbose paragraphs to my summer recap this year (my writing brain is a little tired), I’m going with numbers.
In no particular order, here’s my summer by the digits:
Books read – 13 (and counting)
Visits to Door County – 2
Early morning walks – too many to count
Bible studies completed – 1 (Beth Moore’s Children of the Day)
Plants purchased – 1
Plants that died – 1
Average bed-time – 9:30 (I live on the edge.)
Prayers written – 100+
Pies made – 0 (What is wrong with me?! Fixing this ASAP.)
Ants that invaded my living room – hundreds
Ant bait purchased – 1 jumbo sized package
July birthdays in my family – 3
The age I turned in July – 25
Times I wished my family all lived closer – infinity
Craft projects that made a mess but turned out great – 3
Nights on the porch watching fireflies twinkle in the tall grass – at least a dozen
Hottest temp so far in my zip code – 95
Times I’ve considered online dating – 2
Times I’ve actually had the guts to online date – 0
Political rants I’ve seen on Facebook – too many
Hours of the Olympics watched – 0 (Not hard when you don’t have a TV. The best clips get posted online anyways.)
Puppies I’ve held (and wanted to take home) – 1
Failed recipes – 3
Times I’ve finally understood the point of Snapchat – 0 (I think I got old or something.)
Recipes I’ve had published since May – 40 (Find them in Simply Gluten Free Magazine and Paleo Magazine.)
Times my A/C had to be fixed – 1
Intense lightning storms that were scary and humbling and amazing – 2
Times I’ve surprised myself – 3
Mornings I’ve woken up grateful for another summer day that the Lord has made – every single one. He is good and so very, very faithful. Every season is a gift!
I’d love to hear some highlights of your summer in the comments. Share away! August is a good month to celebrate life. But then, isn’t every month?
