2014-Intentions

Happy New Year!

I’m so excited about the next 12 months. I’ve been setting some intentions for the New Year—some large, some small—and I can’t wait to see what unfolds as I pursue them. When I set goals, I try keep the ART acronym in mind:

  • Achievable: I set intentions that are realistic and doable for myself with wherever I’m at in life. Choosing goals that are too lofty usually result in disappointment when I fail to meet them. So I choose to set myself up for positivity by setting goals that are challenging, but manageable.
  • Relevant: I don’t set intentions for things that don’t mesh up with my current lifestyle. For example, while I’d love to polish up my Spanish and become fluent someday, this year I know it’s just not going to happen. I have a business to build, relationships to forge, and lots of other pursuits that simply won’t allow enough time for learning Spanish, too!
  • Time sensitive: Giving my goals timelines—whether they’re meant to be reached in a few weeks or across a whole 12 months—helps make them more tangible and real. I would highly encourage you to give your intentions some type of deadline or time-frame to work with so that you’ll be more motivated to make progress daily.

I have a long list of intentions for the year, but I thought I’d share 4 of them with you today as we kick off the New Year!

  • I didn’t mention this in the video, but a wonderful book that was a big inspiration to me a few years ago is Jack Canfield’s The Success Principles. It’s super motivating, especially at the start of the year. I think I need to re-read it!

  1. Happy New Year Hallie! I love your ART idea. My goals are to continue to listen to my body in relation to food. Explore more natural sugar alternative recipes. Grow with my photography skills. Enjoy life.

  2. My resolution for 2014 is to do a better job of praying for each of my four kiddos and husband each day. Thanks for sharing! I know it is not relevant to this blog, but I homeschool. Any words of wisdom in looking back would be appreciated as well as any favorite devotionals growing up!

    • Lisa: I loved being homeschooled. I’m not sure I have any words of wisdom, other than sticking it out the first few years (which were rough…) was the best thing we did! I never really used devotionals growing up, but once I reached my teens I really enjoyed the Precept Upon Precept Bible studies (Kay Arthur). They’re intense, but SO good!

      • Thanks! I have three that are easy to teach and one who is a real challenge. He is 13 – also my picky eater! I am excited to see your recipes in the next year.

  3. I really loved hearing your video about your goals. Thank you for sharing. Turns out we have more in common than I knew. Yay! I homeschool my boys and have for 6 years and absolutely LOVE it. I am also a Christian. I really love the four buckets idea and plan to incorpoarate that. I haven’t set goals yet this year because I tend to plan too much. Sometimes I think God may be wanting me to just wait on His guidance as to what I would like to achieve. That being said He puts on my heart certain things that I am praying about whether to make them goals for the year or not. One of them is being intentional about memorizing scripture this year. I just love you and your work and thank you so much for sharing. Happy New Year to you Hallie!
