It’s beginning to look and feel a lot like Christmas! Since the season feels short this year because Thanksgiving came so late, I’m savoring every bit of the holiday spirit. I’ve already made two Christmas gifts for family members. It’s the first year I’ve done homemade gifts. They turned out okay…I just hope the recipients don’t inspect them too closely! (I’m better in the kitchen than I am at the craft table…)
I thought I’d share some of my favorite things this year when it comes to gifts, books, and recipes. Crank that Christmas music and read on!
I discovered MadeOn Skincare Products through the blogosphere somehow and I’m so glad I did. Renee was kind enough to send me a handpicked selection of products to sample. I am a huge fan of her hard lotion! Made from coconut oil, beeswax, and shea butter, it is the ultimate dry skin remedy and is perfect for those chapped hands, cracked heels, and crispy elbows.
If you’re looking for a great gift that’s a perfect way to encourage your loved one to give natural skincare a try, browse through MadeOn’s products. There is so much to choose from and the packaging is super cute.
Several weeks ago, Nuts.com sent me a gift package including their coconut flour, almond flour, and raw cacao goji energy squares. The flour has worked perfectly in all of my baked goods. And I had those energy squares polished off in less than a week. Nuts.com offers a HUGE selection of natural gluten-free snacks, nuts and nut flours, and more. Creating your own unique gift packages would be a fun way to spoil a friend or family member with the best gift of all: food!
I ordered some Bowlovers a few months ago and use them regularly instead of cling wrap. They’re cute, effective, and the best part is that they’re eco-friendly. You can wash and reuse them time and time again. Great stocking stuffer.
Mighty Leaf Tea
Last year I gave this Mighty Leaf Tea Sampler to my sister and her husband for Christmas. They are still talking about it. It’s been one of the most well-received gifts I’ve ever given anyone! The sampler includes 108 tea pouches in a variety of blends, many of which are organic. In the midst of cold and flu season, tea is a mainstay. Give a gift that will comfort and soothe even the scratchiest of throats.
Pictured above are my two favorite pairs of mittens. They’re made from old recycled sweaters and lined with fleece. Even the fiercest winter winds can’t penetrate them. If you’d like a pair for yourself or one to tuck in loved ones’ stockings, check out Etsy! I did a quick search and came up with dozens of adorable styles.
The Healthy Apple Holiday Cookbook
My friend Amie at The Healthy Apple recently released an e-book filled with holiday recipes that are all gluten-free. Some of the tasty options include Spicy Pumpkin Hummus, Honey Roasted Apple & Sweet Potato Stuffing, No Bake Pumpkin Pie, Candy Cane Bark, and Chunky Apple Butterscotch Bread. I love that Amie gives a healthier spin to her recipes and focuses on using real ingredients with a touch of indulgence.
Many recipes are also egg-free and vegan. Pick up your e-book and start adding her recipes to your holiday menus! (But really I think many of them would be perfect any time of the year.)
Lexie, a close personal friend of mine and the rockstar designer of my cookie book, released her first cookbook last month! Everyday Classics is filled to the brim with wonderful gluten-free recipes. It’s a must-have book for those with food allergies, sensitivities, and intolerances. Lexie puts her healthier spin on classic pantry staples, breakfasts, dinners, and desserts—all of which are family favorites that she makes gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, soy-free, and 98% corn-free. Sandwich bread, marshmallows, pancakes, cheesecake…she’s got you covered!

The Paleo Chocolate Lover’s Cookbook
I guess it’s the season of friends of mine releasing cookbooks, because sweet Kelly from The Spunky Coconut rolled out The Paleo Chocolate Lover’s Cookbook this fall and it has been receiving rave reviews. Order two copies, one to give away and one to keep for yourself. Trust me. One quick glance through this book and you’ll be craving chocolate BIG time!
Kelly’s recipes are free of gluten, grains, and dairy—but they are loaded with flavor and indulgence. Chocolate Crepe Cake with Coconut Cream. White Chocolate Dipped Macadamia Biscotti. Cherry Cordial Fudge. Need I say more?

Super Healthy Cookies
And last but not least, I can’t help but give a quick shout out to Super Healthy Cookies. ‘Tis the season for baking! If you want healthier treats circulating in your kitchen this year, you MUST get your hands on a copy.
A reader wrote me last week and said this: “Looking ahead to the holidays, I feel good knowing that I will once again be able to provide memory making foods for my GF, DF son and treats for my whole family without the guilt. Thank you for all that you share. You’ve made this journey of healing and health for me and my son a much more colorful, palatable one!”
That totally made my day! If you want to experience freedom of dietary limitations this season, I think Super Healthy Cookies can help.
It just wouldn’t be Christmas without a whole lot of cooking happening, right? Here are some of my favorite holiday recipes.
