Savory Pumpkin Almond Twists

October 25th, 2012 at 1:01 pm

A perfect summer meal to me is a giant salad with garden-fresh produce and homemade dressing. But in the cooler months, nothing could be further from the truth! While I’ll happily eat salad year round, a bowl of soup or stew is the epitome of comfort on chilly days. What’s even better than soup? The stuff you dunk in it, of course.

Soup served on its own always seems naked to me. Every good soup deserves a good “dipper,” like cornbread muffins or crunchy crackers.

My love for dippers sent me to the kitchen a few weeks ago to create these Savory Pumpkin Almond Twists, a delightful play on bread sticks that pair perfectly with a warm pot of broth and veggies.

For the recipe for these grain-free and vegan twists, head on over to The Balanced Platter!

  1. Hey Hallie,
Thought you’d like to know that I made these tonight. I split the dough in half before adding the spices, and added savory spices to one and sweet (cinnamon, ginger, allspice) to the other. Topped the savory ones with course salt and the sweet ones with palm sugar. Dippers and dessert!

My needed to cook a little longer than stated. Could be a difference in pumpkin moisture, though.

Hallie, These pumpkin almond twists sound great – but we have been baking out of your new Super Healthy Cookies book today. Are you kidding me??? You are a genius!! The chewy cashew apricot cookies are beyond words…. I have been having a hard time maintaining my weight – but after a few batches of these, I am sure I will start packing on the pounds again!!! I will have to hide them from myself so the kiddos get some. Every cookie we have made today is SO satisfying, which is not something I say often. Thank you. This book has been such an encouragement to us!

  3. Deanna: Thanks for the feedback! :)

  4. Stephanie: Your comment made my WEEK! Thank you! So glad you’re enjoying the book. :)

  5. Just made these and they were awesome! I used Italian Seasoning in mine and they were the perfect balance of savory with a very slightly sweet undertone to make them perfectly addictive. Thank you for bringing gourmet “breadsticks” back in to our lives. SO yummy!
