I can’t seem to get enough smoothies this time of year. With the dry winter air wreaking havoc on my skin and hair (major static alert!) and cold breezes turning my lips to wrinkly sandpaper, I’m craving moist, hydrating foods like never before.
Salads are my typical lunch of choice. I pack as many veggies as possible into my little Pyrex container to take to work. Dinners have been cleansing soups with mineral-rich chicken broth or veggie-centric meals heavy on the produce and light on the meat. Not that I don’t need some good grounding protein this time of year, I certainly do. But I just can’t pass up all those vibrant shades of green (kale! collards! spinach! chard!) in the produce aisle of my local co-op.
Smoothies are my breakfast mainstays most mornings whether it’s the heat of summer or the dead of winter. Nothing feels more soothing on a crackly throat than a creamy, cold smoothie. Several weeks ago I shared my old favorite, the Green “Creamsicle” Smoothie, for G-Free Mom’s Detox January Event. Today I have another one perfect for a hydrating winter breakfast: Coconut Mango Smoothie with Lime.
Lusciously creamy, this smoothie is the perfect balance of sweet and zesty. I’ve also made it with orange zest instead of the lime. Either way is delightful. The fat from the coconut milk gives this smoothie some bulk. I pair it with a handful of raw almonds or walnuts for a satisfying, thirst-quenching morning meal.

Coconut Mango Smoothie with Lime
Makes one smoothie
½ cup fresh chopped, ripe mango
½ frozen banana
¼ cup full fat coconut milk
¼ cup water
2 ice cubes
¼ teaspoon (packed) fresh lime zest
- Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend on high until smooth and creamy. Serve and enjoy right away.
