Green “Creamsicle” Smoothie

June 1st, 2010 at 12:12 pm

Last week I started every one of my days with this green smoothie. The sweet creaminess, the icy cold texture…it made me feel like I was eating dessert for breakfast! What better way to start the day?

While it may taste rich and decadent, this smoothie is actually packed with all things healthy. Greens pack a giant nutrient punch with vitamins, minerals, fiber, and chlorophyll. Fruit strengthens the immune system (and just tastes good!) with vitamin C, more fiber, and antioxidants. And a bit of avocado supplies healthy fat that satisfies and lends creaminess to the smoothie.

The texture of this is thick enough to eat with a spoon, hence the “creamsicle” in the recipe title. If you’re worried that avocados along with fruit and greens sounds like a recipe for disaster, I encourage you to give this a try—just one try—and see if you change your mind. You really do not taste the avocado at all, or the mild greens for that matter. Trust me.

This smoothie is my entry into 5-Star Smoothies and Shakes (with a Twist) over at Five Star Foodie Culinary Adventures. The round-up of all of the smoothie entries for this challenge will be posted at Five Star Foodie on June 7th. Check it out for more smoothie inspiration!
